How Do I Work?

My approach to delivering physiotherapy is based on robust clinical reasoning principles and evidence-based treatments. I am a strong advocate of movement and exercise, and my patients will realise once they start therapy with me that they are fully participators in their treatments and recovery rather than spectators.

Through a comprehensive and detailed assessment, we will identify the source of your problem and find out what is happening and why. When we find the root cause, we will determine and establish an appropriate treatment tailored to your needs using different tools such as progressive therapeutic exercise, manual therapy and more importantly, education to boost your confidence and help you to achieve your goals.

FAQ

Every person and condition are unique so times can vary slightly, however in order to provide a detail assessment, generally you will spend around 60-90 minutes in the clinic or the gym.

After a thorough assessment we will progress to the most appropriate treatment. Advice and therapeutic exercises will then be provided so we can plan your personal rehab.

As a physiotherapist and also an exercise scientist, this is the most valuable tool that I can offer you. Exercise will help correct certain impairments, improve your musculoskeletal function, or simply help you to maintain your previous lifestyle. It involves exercises that target specific muscles or parts of the body, which will help you to re-establish and improve your physical endurance, strength and power.

Manual therapy can involve different hands on treatments and techniques, but you will receive, if necessary, two of the most common ones such as massage and joint mobilisations.

No, I will not crack your spine, pop your neck or “re-adjust” your vertebras. While there are other professionals that choose to do it, I do not practise it. Our body is a really strong structure and does not get “out of adjustment” so easily, so I personally do not believe in practising this technique.

No, it does not have to hurt or cause pain or discomfort. Many people arrive to their appointment saying that they do not want to get hurt (normally people who have had previous bad experiences or misconceptions). Many of my patients have been referred to me because I do not cause pain. I can understand your worry as I have been a patient myself and met plenty of “no pain no gain” professionals, however I approach treatments differently and seek to avoid you experiencing pain.

My motto is: the least I see you, the better. That would mean that we are being very efficient with the rehab strategy and it is working for you. So, by showing and sharing with you my knowledge and education on how to deal with your problem/condition, the rehab process will be quicker and preventable in the long term. My goal is not to try to sell sessions, I do not aim for repeated business, I aim for referral business.

It will depend on the area to treat but I would recommend comfortable clothing that will allow movement.

My clinic is located in the city centre, although depending on the treatment needed or the stage of your rehab, you will be able to perform your treatment in a gym also located in the city centre.
